Defensive Player of the Week: Duke Ejiofor, Wake Forest DE

Things have not gone well in Winston-Salem on the gridiron for most of the last decade. Wake Forest Demon Deacons head coach Dave Clawson was just 6-18 (2-14) in his first two seasons on the job.

With Clawson on the hot seat entering 2016, he needed a big win Saturday versus the Duke Blue Devils to keep the wolves at bay in Winston-Salem. His Demon Deacons have moved to 2-0 (1-0) on the year thanks to a great defensive performance by defensive end Duke Ejiofor on Saturday.

It took a guy named Duke to beat Duke 24-14 on Saturday, but Ejiofor was spectacular for Wake Forest. He had seven total tackles (four solo and three assists) and three quarterback sacks in this ACC inter-divisional rivalry.

Duke may be dealing with the fallout of another Achilles injury to quarterback Thomas Sirk, but Wake Forest is 2-0 on the year in the first two weeks of the 2016 college football season. Clawson has never won more than three games in Winston-Salem. Perhaps Ejiofor can anchor the Demon Deacon defense to a shocking bowl bid in 2016?
