Heisman Performance of the Week: Lamar Jackson, Louisville QB

Through the first two weeks of the 2016 college football season, the front-runner for the 2016 Heisman Trophy has to be Louisville sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson.

What Jackson did on Friday night against the Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome was nothing short of amazing. Jackson had five touchdowns against a frustrated Orange defense, four on the ground and four in the first quarter.

Jackson was one rushing yard shy of being the first player in FBS history to throw for over 400 yards and rush for 200. Before being pulled halfway through the fourth quarter, Jackson completed 20-of-39 passes for 411 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His receivers did drop many of his passes, adding to his weak 51.3 completion percentage on the night.

On the ground, Jackson ran the football 21 times for 199 yards and four touchdowns. Syracuse isn’t a world beater, but Jackson’s record-setting performance in Week 1 against the Orange make the easy choice for the Heisman Trophy in the first two weeks of 2016.
