7. Deshaun Watson – QB – Clemson Tigers

Deshaun Watson’s senior year in 2014 at Gainesville High School in Georgia was a phenomenal one. He recorded 4,431 passing yards with an insane 57 TDs and only five interceptions. He also rushed for 1,057 yards and 14 TDs. As such, he was the obvious selection for Gatorade Player of the Year in his state. He was also considered to be the top QB prospect according to ESPN.

Watson’s first season as a true freshman had its ups and downs. He received extensive playing time despite being the backup and eventually became the starter in his fourth game. In that contest against North Carolina State, Watson set a school record with six TD passes. Unfortunately, he would experience a few injuries including a broken right hand and a torn ACL, cutting his 2014 campaign short.

Watson came back with a vengeance in 2015 as he led the Tigers to a 12-0 record and a spot in the CFP National Championship game. Through the air, he finished with 4,104 passing yards and 35 TDs. On the ground, he finished with 1,105 yards and 12 TDs. Watson is the only player in the history of college football to have a season with 4,000-plus passing yards and 1,000-plus rushing yards. Deshaun would go on to win the Davey O’Brien Award for the nation’s best QB, while finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Watson is currently considered to be the top dual-threat QB in the country, and a viable threat to not only win this year’s Heisman Trophy, but to also be the top overall pick in the NFL Draft. In the history of Madden NFL covers, four dual-threat QBs have been featured. It shouldn’t shock anyone if Watson becomes the fifth.
