2017 NFL Draft: James Conner, Josh Dobbs looking good
Deshaun Watson: Stock down
The odds-on favorite to win the Heisman trophy, compete for a National Championship, and be the number one overall pick, you could say Deshaun Watson has some pressure to deal with.
Entering this season as the number two team in the country, Clemson was expected to dominate their out-of-conference opponents. So far, they’ve outscored their two opponents (Auburn and Troy) 49-37.
Additionally, ESPN insider Adam Schefter downplayed the notion of Deshaun Watson being the presumptive number one overall pick when the NFL Draft rolls into Philadelphia.
On 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia, Schefter told host Anthony Gargano the feeling around the league is that Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer is the leader in the clubhouse.
The Georgia native is already under the national spotlight. To have one of the most prominent NFL reporters in history say teams don’t consider him the number one overall pick is tough to hear. This could either motivate Watson, or rub him the wrong way.
There’s a lot to like about Deshaun Watson. Every time he scrambles and creates plays on his own, I see Russell Wilson. Now obviously Watson has a good four inches on Wilson, but the escapability shown by Watson is undeniable.
Going up against a winless South Carolina State, Deshaun Watson and Clemson can not run down the hill expecting to play through the motions and win. The junior quarterback needs to make sure he’s mentally prepared and dominate a MEAC opponent.
