Goalies

The two hottest fantasy goalkeepers, Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc and Burnley’s Tom Heaton, do look like intriguing picks. However, with the matchups they face this weekend — Bournemouth take on Manchester City and Burnley face off against Leicester — it may be wise to stay away from them.

Everton’s Maarten Stekelenburg (£5) might be your best bet. His side will be taking on the newly promoted Middlesbrough at home. Boro are 1-1 on the road, but after Everton’s 3-0 performance against Sunderland, it might not be easy for the visitors to get a result.

Defenders

Defenders to watch

Another Toffee to watch is defender Phil Jagielka (£5), who has fared well in recent matches. With an eight point performance against Stoke in Week 3 and six points last weekend, Jagielka is worth watching.

If you think Everton might struggle against Middlesbrough, then take a look at Boro defender Daniel Ayala (£5). The Spaniard has done well early on, thanks to a five point performance against West Brom and a seven point haul against Crystal Palace last week.

These two picks should be based on who you think will win that match. This is Ayala’s first top flight season since 2011-12, and Jagielka has been an 100+ point performer eight out of the last 10 fantasy seasons.

Defenders to avoid

Chelsea may be a strong defensive team, but in terms of fantasy, it looks like Gary Cahill might be the odd man out. With David Luiz back in the squad, some say that Antonio Conte might bring in his favorite three-man back line to help give Chelsea a boost. If that is the case, then the Stamford Bridge side could line up with Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry/Kurt Zouma (when they are full healthy).

Cahill will likely get the start over Terry this week, but if Zouma can bring back his strong performance from last year, the Englishman might be used as a bench option for Conte.

The England international has been a consistent performer in FPL, but his 53 point intake from last season isn’t good enough for a player worth £6.

After a very impressive eight point performance on the opening weekend, Swansea’s Stephen Kingsley (£4.1) has seen his point total fall. With three points in his last three matches, 12.1 percent of FPL owners still think he can turn it around.

With matches against Southampton, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal next for Swansea, it might be a good decision to wait for Kingsley to put in good performances.
