1.Jeff Brohm

Brohm is in his third season as head coach at Western Kentucky, with a 22-8 record (2-1 so far in 2016) and a bowl win at the end of each of his first two seasons.

Offense is Brohm’s calling card, starting with seven seasons as an NFL backup quarterback from 1994-2000). He has steady climbed the coaching latter, since becoming quarterbacks coach at Louisville (his alma mater) in 2003 and adding offensive coordinator duties there in 2008.

Brohm served as quarterbacks coach at Florida Atlantic (2009), Illinois (2010-2011) and UAB (2012; also offensive coordinator) before going to Western Kentucky in 2013. When Bobby Petrino went back to Louisville after that 2013 season, Brohm was promoted to head coach.

The level of competition in Conference USA should be noted, but Western Kentucky finished third in the country in scoring offense (44.3 points per game) last season. The Hilltoppers, led by current Miami Dolphins practice squader Brandon Doughty, also finished in the top-10 nationally in passing (372.2 yards per game; fourth) and total offense (526.4 yards per game; ninth) in 2015.

LSU may aim to replace Miles with a big name that has national cache’, which Brohm is not and does not have at this point. But he’s an easy candidate to make the jump to a job in a Power 5 conference very soon, and LSU should have Brohm on their list of head coaching candidates.
