College Football Rankings 2016: Week 4 AP Poll winners and losers
Loser: Texas Longhorns (No. 11 down to No. 21)
The highest of highs and the lowest of lows have already struck the Texas Longhorns in 2016. After winning against No. 10 Notre Dame to begin the season, the Longhorns dropped a tough road game against the California Golden Bears in Week 3.
Charlie Strong’s team raced out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter and all seemed to be right, but allowing Davis Webb to pass anywhere he pleased was the difference. It was a back-and-forth game throughout and the Longhorns came out on the losing side of things, 50-43.
This is the second time this season Texas has given up more than 40 points to an opponent and that’s something that must be fixed before Big 12 play begins. As you know, the Big 12 has many pass-heavy teams, such as Oklahoma and Baylor, and that might end up dooming the Longhorns in the long run.
Dropping down to No. 21 after hitting No. 11 last week is a tough blow for a team looking to make a run at the playoff, but that’s what happens when you drop a road game against a team that has struggled defensively this season.
Texas needs to fix the defensive scheme before it can truly be considered a title threat.
