It would’ve been very tempting for general manager Ryan Pace to consider grabbing a quarterback with the No. 3 pick, but there are still plenty of holes left on his roster for the Bears. This is also not to say they won’t. Odds are good they might yet in the second or third given the reasonable depth of this class. So Chicago decided on a course similar to Tennessee and Cleveland and elected to stockpile draft picks to load up on young talent.

Taking the best offensive tackle in the class is never the wrong thing to do, but it has special meaning for the Bears. Just take one look at their situation to understand. On one side they have Charles Leno, a former seventh-round pick who isn’t terrible but hasn’t shown anything to prove he’s great. On the other is Bobby Massie, a hulking run blocker who is a major liability in pass protection.

Cam Robinson would be a significant upgrade over either of them. Like most offensive linemen at Alabama he has similar traits. He’s big. He’s strong. He’s physical and gets after it in the run game. Coupled with long arms and the athleticism to handle himself in pass protection and there aren’t a ton of weaknesses to his game. Whether he’s matured beyond his off-the-field problems is the big question.
. OT. Alabama. Cam Robinson . 9. player. 57
