Ranking Florida’s quarterbacks since Tim Tebow by sadness factor
By John Buhler
5. Treon Harris
The quarterback that best personifies the dysfunctional behavior of the Gators offense since Tebow has to be Treon Harris. Harris was thrust into the starting role in 2014 after Jeff Driskel was benched.
He was never an accurate passer at Florida (50.3%), but he did win the Gators some ball games as a game manager. Harris beat Georgia twice and appeared in 20 games for the 2014-15 Gators before transferring this season.
Harris’ issues with the Gators stem more from off-the-field stuff than anything. He had multiple incidents with the Gainesville police, including accusations of sexual assault in December 2015. Harris was suspended by the team and elected to transfer back in July.
Harris still hasn’t landed with another Power 5 team since transferring from Florida a few months ago. He clearly doesn’t have the accuracy to thrive in a college offense. However, he did win a bunch of games under center with Florida.
It wasn’t pretty, but he might have been the most stable quarterback to play for Florida since Tebow. That speaks volumes about his erratic behavior and that Florida doesn’t know what it’s doing at the quarterback position.
