Tough losses and byes

Georgia saw went from being SEC East frontrunners to out of the AP Top 25 Poll in just four seconds on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs couldn’t defend a Tennessee Volunteers’ Hail Mary as time expired to lose Between the Hedges, 34-31.

In all fairness, this isn’t a championship caliber team for first-year head coach Kirby Smart. He’s getting little production from his upperclassmen. The offensive line play is weak and the pass rush isn’t up to par.

However, Georgia does have some very talented freshman on its roster. Jacob Eason, Isaac Nauta, Charlie Woerner, Riley Ridley, Brian Herrien, and Julian Rochester will all play big roles for the Dawgs the next two seasons. Eason is going to be great. So will his team. Just not in 2016. Stay patient, Dawg Nation.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs were the lone team in the SEC on a bye in Week 5. Mississippi State has had an extra week to feel good about itself after beating the UMass Minutemen in Foxborough in Week 4.

The Bulldogs will play the Auburn Tigers in Week 6 in somewhat of an SEC prove-it game. Whoever comes out on top in that SEC West rivalry game, there is a great chance that team will have locked up a bowl bid. The other will still have some work to do in the bottom half of the SEC West.
