2. He would no longer be coaching FSU

This is sort of a Kevin-Durant-joined-the-Warriors-and-killed-their-toughest-competitor-at-the-same-time thing. By nabbing Fisher from Florida State, not only would LSU be obtaining one of the very best coaches and recruiters in the country for themselves, they’d be taking him away from what’s shaping up to be a perennial playoff contender.

Ideally it’d be preferable to steal away a talented coach within the SEC, since surviving it to reach the College Football Playoff is a challenge in itself. If an SEC team reaches the playoffs, they have a good chance. That being said, Fisher is one of the best coaches in the country and a hurdle at some point en route to the National Championship.

College football is a dirty game. Coaches recruit negatively and try to change committed players’ minds every single year. Coaches also leave jobs for what they deem better situations every year. If part of the appeal of hiring a new head coach is putting a hurdle in the place of a potential rival, well – that’s just par for the course. Maybe after his next health episode Florida State could turn around and hire Urban Meyer.
