4. Josh McDaniels

Maybe Notre Dame just has a thing for hiring former New England Patriots offensive coordinators. While it didn’t work out the last time they did so, the Irish should consider Josh McDaniels for the job. He’s still young, but he’s gained a ton of experience in his coaching career.

Although he failed with the Denver Broncos, he has come back to the Patriots and done a masterful job, including being a key cog in the coaching staff that led the team to their win in Super Bowl XLIX. With more experience under his belt and learning from one of the best football minds ever in Bill Belichick, McDaniels is going to get an opportunity soon.

Notre Dame shouldn’t shy away from McDaniels because of the failures of Charlie Weis. He has had a ton of experience and that short stint with the Broncos still does a lot for him. He’s all the wiser for it and will know what to do and what not to do.

The college ranks might be even better for him. As a younger coach, it might work well with coaching young players. He won’t have Tom Brady at quarterback, but he’ll know how to make young quarterbacks successful.
