5 reasons Notre Dame should fire Brian Kelly

3. He made DeShone Kizer throw the football 26 times in a hurricane
While it isn’t completely fair to ridicule Kelly for one isolated incident, he did make starting quarterback DeShone Kizer throw the football 26 times in a hurricane versus North Carolina State on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolfpack got the memo that the game was going to be played in a hurricane in Raleigh. North Carolina State wisely decided to pound the rock. Kelly had Kizer drop back to pass 26 times! He completed only nine passes for 54 yards and an interception.
Yes, the game at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh should have probably been rescheduled, but what was Kelly thinking? Kizer is a blue-chip NFL prospect. He and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson are probably going to be the first two quarterbacks off the board in the 2017 NFL Draft.
It’s not like Kizer can’t run the football. He’s not the dual-threat playmaker of Watson, but 15 runs to 26 passes in a hurricane is not the ratio required to play winning football in bad weather. Kelly is a defense-first coach, but how could he put his best player in a position that there was absolutely no chance he could have succeeded?
