Maine: Quinton Porter – Boston College Eagles

Maine is not a major producer of elite quarterbacks, at any level. The most notable Maine-born signal-caller is former NFL and CFL player Quinton Porter.

Porter was born in Portland, Maine and graduated from Portland High School. He enjoyed a lot of success at that level and won Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year Award as a senior. He would then accept a scholarship from Boston College, where didn’t start until his junior year.

As a redshirt senior in 2005, Quinton was named the ACC Player of the Week after a win over Virginia that saw the Eagles ranked No. 13 in the country. Unfortunately, following a bad loss to Virginia Tech, Porter was benched for current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

After graduation, Porter experienced a bit of success with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL when he led the league in rushing touchdowns in 2011. Porter was later released by the team per his request.

He didn’t have the type of football career he expected to, but Porter is still the best quarterback from his home state. One can only wonder what he might have become if he weren’t benched for Ryan in college.
