Jalen Reeves-Maybin, LB, Tennessee: Stock Down

Jalen Reeves-Maybin may never play collegiate football again after suffering a left shoulder injury that will end the senior’s season. Originally projected to be a third round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Reeves-Maybin slides down into the day three selections.

This injury hurts him tremendously after a breakout junior season in which he had six sacks, two forced fumbles, and 105 tackles.

Reeves-Maybin has excellent play recognition skills as an outside linebacker and has freakish athleticism. His composure on the field has repeatedly been an issue, resulting in penalties and ejections. He was tossed for a targeting penalty in the 2016 season opener against Appalachian State and was dealt a penalty the following week for unnecessary roughness.

Size has also been a constant issue for Reeves-Maybin as a 6’1, 225-pound linebacker. He’s a “tweener” when it comes to him ultimately playing either inside or outside linebacker at the next level. He’s also played nickel corner, but ultimately he will play somewhere in the front seven. Playing as a weakside linebacker in a 4-3 defense may be where he ultimately ends up.

With only four games of tape available for this season and no sacks or standout tackle numbers, Reeves-Maybin will have to perform well at the NFL Combine. Showing off his athleticism and play recognition while wearing shorts could potentially bring him back into the day two conversation come draft day
