EDGE. Alabama. Tim Williams. 9. player. 13.

Probably the most obvious need on this Chargers’ roster is offensive line, specifically left tackle. Unfortunately, there are not any elite-level left tackles who stand out right now worth taking this early.

Wide receiver and cornerback may also be options for this team, but an impact outside rusher would also make a lot of sense. They simply must get better on the defensive side of the ball, and adding Alabama’s Tim Williams to the mix would be a step in the right direction.

Arguably the most talented pass rusher in this draft class, Williams undoubtedly fills the defensive play-maker role. Williams is an extremely productive edge rusher who can consistently create pressure on the quarterback.

Williams displays an incredible first step off of the snap. He is consistently beating the opposing offensive tackles to the point of attack; setting up the rest of his game extremely well.

Not only does Williams get an immediate edge against the blocker, he also brings an extremely explosive pass rush repertoire to the table. He can set up blockers with an impressive array of pass rush moves both to the inside and outside.

An extremely quick, explosive, smart and athletic player, Williams has a ton of upside at the next level.

He is a bit on the small side for an edge rusher, but his athleticism typically makes up for any issues he has in that department. However, Williams does leave plenty to be desired as a run defender.

At least early in his career, Williams is likely to be a pass rush specialist. He can attack the quarterback with the best of them, but he is not a player you can build your run defense around.

Add Williams to the mix with guys like Joey Bosa, Corey Liuget, Denzel Perryman, Brandon Mebane and Melvin Ingram and the Chargers have the makings of a dynamic defensive front seven.

He is not a perfect player, but in today’s NFL guys who can attack the quarterback are worth their weight in gold. An obvious pass rush savant, Williams is going to make a difference at the next level.
