5 reasons Texas A&M Aggies won’t upset Alabama Crimson Tide
By John Buhler
4. Trevor Knight is erratic at quarterback
To be fair, all SEC quarterbacks are erratic. The least erratic is probably Arkansas’ Austin Allen, but he still does find ways to throw horrendous interceptions. Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly is the best pro-prospect in the SEC in 2016, but his cocky attitude and gunslinger mentality don’t help make him a reliable signal caller.
Hurts is a true freshman and so is Georgia’s Jacob Eason, so erraticism is totally understandable. Though he’s not as ebb-and-flow as Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs, Texas A&M’s graduate transfer quarterback Trevor Knight isn’t without his ups and downs.
For somebody to beat Alabama, especially at Bryant-Denny, the opposing starting quarterback will need to play an efficient, almost near-perfect game. Knight has shown a level of dynamism at the quarterback position that can help him overcome some of his mental lapses on the field, but he is going to turn the football over at least twice against Alabama. That’s not going to bode well for Gig ‘Em Nation.
Knight’s dual-threat ability will make it hard for the Alabama defense against him, but he’s really just a better version of Dobbs, who Alabama had no problem eviscerating on the road in Knoxville in Week 7.
He is capable of guiding the Aggies to victory on Saturday, but Knight is more likely to be the one that swings it in the Crimson Tide’s favor with an ill-advised pick-six.
