NBA Trade Rumors: 5 potential destinations for LaMarcus Aldridge
2. Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have been linked to nearly every top player on the trade market since the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce deal with the Brooklyn Nets. They still have the right to swap first round picks in 2017 and own their 2018 selection. Given how high these picks will likely be, it makes them attractive pieces for bringing in a big name. If that someone is LaMarcus Aldridge, something could work.
While the Spurs may not want to just take a high pick, they could be tempted by the talent at the top of the 2017 draft. Given the talent at the top of the draft, though, it’s doubtful the Celtics will want to move this pick. So, Boston’s 2017 or Brooklyn’s 2018 selection may be more realistic. Amir Johnson’s expiring deal and Tyler Zeller’s contract could probably go to San Antonio with the pick. This would open San Antonio’s cap space for the summer of 2017, which will see the available space increase. They could then target someone like Blake Griffin or Serge Ibaka in free agency.
The Celtics would have one of the NBA’s best frontcourts to go along with Avery Bradley, rookie Jaylen Brown, and star point guard Isaiah Thomas. They wouldn’t be on par with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the definite No. 2 team in the Eastern Conference.
