Former US Women’s National Team midfielder Lauren Holiday, wife of New Orleans Pelicans’ Jrue Holiday, had a successful surgery to remove a brain tumor.
It was a great day for the Holiday family, the United States Women’s National Team, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Former USWNT midfielder Lauren Holiday, wife of Pelicans star point guard Jrue Holiday, had a successful operation to remove a benign brain tumor on Friday morning.
The Holidays are new parents as well. Mrs. Holiday opted to have this operation just weeks after the birth of her first child. The operation’s success is exciting for her immediate family and all of those who have supported the Holidays during these trying times.
Lauren and Jrue met when they were student athletes for the UCLA Bruins, she playing for the soccer team and he playing for the men’s basketball team. Mr. Holiday has put his basketball career on hold to make sure that his wife’s health is back to good. The Pelicans organization has been graciously compliant to letting Holiday be there 100 percent for his family.
It has been a difficult last few months. The Holidays found out about Lauren’s tumor in June. It was became news to the public on September 4th, 2016. This was during her third trimester and her husband was about to begin NBA training camp with the Pelicans.

With the success of this operation, it might hasten the return of Holiday to the Pelicans. Obviously, New Orleans is going to give him all the time he needs to be with his wife. Maybe we might see Holiday return to the Women’s National team in 2017. That would certainly cap off a remarkable story we could all get behind.
