4. It’s not like this blue-blood is devoid of talent

While Strong’s 2016 Longhorns are below .500 at 3-4 through Week 8 of the 2016 college football season, it’s not like Texas is devoid of talent for Strong. Texas is one of those blue-blood programs that has and will always have elite talent on its roster. The Longhorns football program sells itself to top recruits in Texas.

Texas has been down since playing for the 2009 National Championship against the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the Longhorns’ mediocre play on the football field is starting to get ridiculous. Without question, Strong has more talent on this 2016 Texas roster than any team he coached in Louisville. It may not be on par with one of the Urban Meyer Florida Gators teams, but Texas has five-star talent.

Two players immediately stand out from this Texas team on the offensive side of the ball. True freshman quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Devin Duvernay. They are headlining the Longhorns’ Air Raid attack in their first season in Austin.

Many Power 5 schools never even sniff that kind of offensive dynamism. This is an offensive tandem that can win the Big 12 and contend for a College Football Playoff spot in 2018. Who knows if Strong even gets to coach them when Buechele and Duvernay are true sophomores?
