2. Steve Spurrier’s ‘Half a Hundred’ Game

There will never be another head coach in college football like Steve Spurrier. The Head Ball Coach was an offensive innovator and the best trash talker any college football press conference has ever seen.

Spurrier had his teams slinging the pigskin on first, second, and third downs in the ground-and-pound SEC. He also loved to poke fun at two SEC East rival schools in Georgia and Tennessee. Tennessee was more of a national power during Spurrier’s time in Gainesville, but it was always important for Spurrier to beat Georgia annually.

In 1994 and 1995, Florida-Georgia would be played in Gainesville and then Athens while Jacksonville constructed its new and improved football stadium. Florida crushed Georgia in Gainesville in 1994, 52-14.

Spurrier planned to hang “Half a Hundred” on the Dawgs in Athens. With future Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel at the helm, Florida torched Georgia, 52-17 in the Classic City in 1995. Florida would win the SEC that season. It’s crazy to think that Florida scored 104 points over two seasons against a blue-blood program like Georgia, but that was the kind of the way the Head Ball Coach did things.
