3. The upcoming schedule

It’s beginning to look like another disappointing season around .500 for the Rams under Jeff Fisher. However, the upcoming schedule does provide the team and it’s fans some hope. Coming off their bye week, the Rams will play four straight games against opponents with losing records.

Their first game is against the Carolina Panthers (1-5) at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Panthers give up the sixth-most passing yards per game (282.0) and allow about 29 points per game. Jared Goff should step in for this game and easily be able to show the Rams a glimpse of what may come.

Next, the Rams face-off against the New York Jets (2-5). The Jets, like the Panthers, allow 282.0 passing yards per game. Their secondary has been attacked by offenses and per pass-attempt, the Jets give up 8.2 yards. They also allow an average of 25.7 points per game and again, this would be a good opportunity for Goff to get playing time against a below average pass defense.

The New Orleans Saints (week 11) and the Atlanta Falcons (week 13) are two of the worst passing defenses in the league. Even worse than Carolina and New York. Both of those teams rely heavily on their offenses to win games and would provide Goff with the opportunity to be in a game that potentially is a shootout. His arm was why he was drafted first overall, so let’s see it.

The remaining schedule includes the Miami Dolphins (week 10), New England Patriots (week 12), Seattle Seahawks (week 14), San Francisco 49ers (week 15), and the Arizona Cardinals (week 16) who all have stubborn pass defenses. The QB from Cal may not have success against these opponents but again, this season really should be used to evaluate Goff and to see what he potentially can do.
