1. Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks are a national power in need of a new head coach. Mark Helfrich’s team has gotten progressively worse each season since taking over for Chip Kelly in 2013. Helfrich may have guided the Ducks to the first annual College Football Playoff in 2014, but those were with Kelly’s players.

Oregon is 3-5 and probably won’t make it to a bowl this holiday season. The Ducks’ facilities are one of the best in the Power 5 thanks to gracious benefactor Phil Knight, Oregon alumnus and founder of Nike.

One would have to think that the Ducks would go with an offensive mind to replace Helfrich. However, the school just doesn’t have the gravitas to land Herman like LSU would. Les Miles wouldn’t really fit into what the Ducks do offensively.

While the Ducks could go with UCF’s Scott Frost for the sake of continuity (he was the Ducks’ former offensive coordinator), might it be time for Oregon to think outside of the box with an external hire? Fleck may not get the Oregon job over Herman or Lane Kiffin, but he could be a finalist for it if the University of Oregon feels the need to move on from Helfrich.
