4. Chapman saves Game 5

The Cubs knew they had a great team that could win a championship, but all they lacked was a dominant arm in the bullpen. They solved that need midseason when they acquired Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees.

Chapman lights up opponents with his 102-mph fastball, and that’s exactly what he did in Game 5 to get the save. But it wasn’t your usual save.

Down 3-1 in the series, Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon decided that desperate times called for desperate measures. With a 3-2 lead and one out in the seventh inning, Maddon decided to bring in the flame throwing closer. Chapman pitched the final 2.2 innings and sealed a Game 5 victory for Chicago. He allowed one hit and struck out four in this outing.

The Cubs had to do whatever it took to win this game and they did. This was the last game of the season at Wrigley Field and they wanted to make sure that the Indians didn’t celebrate on their field in front of their fans. Chapman’s performance in Game 5 was one that a mixture of clutch-ness and dominance.

Chapman electrified Chicago and this very outing could have sparked them into winning three in a row and the World Series title.
