3. Zobrist gives the Cubs the lead in the 10th

Ben Zobrist signed with the Cubs prior to the 2016 season after winning last year’s World Series with the Royals. It is clear that he is no stranger to the big moment and it doesn’t get to him.

After the rain delay, Zobrist stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second and one out. He hit a double to left field that scored pinch runner Albert Almora and gave the Cubs a 7-6 lead. His heroics helped the Cubs seal the game and earned him World Series MVP honors.

Kyle Schwarber led off the top of the 10th with a single then the Indians had a decision to make. Were they going to pitch to Kris Bryant or Anthony Rizzo? They made the decision to pitch to Bryant and he flew out to center field and Rizzo was intentionally walked. After that, Zobrist came to the plate and the rest is history.

A game-winning hit is something that a person only dreams about and Zobrist did it in Game 7 of the World Series. The Indians were shocked and their fans were quiet. The Cubs tacked on an insurance run which proved to be needed because the Indians scored one in the bottom half.

When the Cubs think back on the title that ended the drought, they will think of many highlights but the double by Zobrist will likely be the one that everyone focuses on.
