The Kansas City Chiefs shock the Carolina Panthers late in Charlotte to win, 20-17 in Week 10. Kansas City improves to 7-2, while Carolina falls to 3-6.

The Kansas City Chiefs stun the Carolina Panthers on the road by winning a game they should have lost, 20-17. Kansas City outscored the Panthers 17-0 in the fourth quarter thanks to outstanding play from its secondary.

The momentum in this game shifting in Kansas City’s favor when safety Eric Berry intercepted a Cam Newton pass and took it to the house on a 42-yard return to tie the game up at 14 after the made Cairo Santos PAT.

Late in the game, the Chiefs would punt the ball deep in the Carolina territory. On the ensuing Carolina possession, Newton would complete a pass to wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Benjamin would fumble the football and Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters would recover the football. This would set up a game-winning field goal by Santos for Kansas City.

Kansas City improves to 7-2 on the year with this impressive road victory over an improving Panthers team. Carolina stumbles to 3-6 on the year. The Panthers are still alive in the NFC South race, as the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints also lost on Sunday. However, the Panthers’ margin for error to reach the NFC Playoffs becomes razor thin entering Week 11.

Three Stars

  1. Eric Berry: Berry had nine tackles, seven solo, one for a loss of yardage, two passes defended, and a momentum changing 42-yard pick-six of Newton.
  2. Marcus Peters: Peters had the game-changing fumble recovery off Benjamin. He also had six tackles, five solo, and four passes defended.
  3. Cam Newton: Newton was the best player for the Panthers’ offense. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Newton also carried the ball 12 times for 54 yards and a touchdown.
