High Value PG

J.J. Barea-Dallas Mavericks (5,800): Barea got the night off as the Mavericks faced the Warriors last Wednesday, but after almost a full week off, he should be rested and ready to go tonight against the Knicks. Dallas is expected to get Dirk Nowitzki back soon, but Deron Williams is still a ways away from his return. Barea should continue to log heavy minutes until the roster is back to 100%. Before getting his off-day, Barea had 18 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists against the Lakers for 34.4 fantasy points. He has at least 29 fantasy points in four of his last five games and is playing 30+ minutes most nights as one of coach Rick Carlisle’s favorite backcourt solutions. If you’re spending under 6K tonight, Barea is one of the best options to check out. ∗∗

Ish Smith-Detroit Pistons (5,300): Smith and the Pistons are back home after a four-game trip to the West. They’ll welcome in a dynamic offensive threat in Russell Westbrook, but that matchup doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look to Smith as a good option as well. Only there teams in the NBA have allowed more fantasy points per game to opposing PG’s than the Thunder and none of them are in action tonight. Smith is coming off 10 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals against the Nuggets for 25.6 fantasy points and has at least 25 fantasy points in three of his last five contests. He and the Pistons play well at The Palace, so I think he makes a nice mid-range play at this price.∗∗∗∗

Marcus Smart-Boston Celtics (5,100): Another one of several good PG in the 5K-range tonight is Marcus Smart who has looked good since returning from an early-season ankle injury. Smart started that last two games for Boston posting 39.2 fantasy points against the Knicks and then just 16.4 fantasy points agains the Pacers. He had at least 21 fantasy points in four straight before Saturday’s mini-letdown, but he’s in a great matchup tonight against the Pelicans and could get more offensively responsibility if Isaiah Thomas is affected by his finger injury. Smart is not as safe a producer as Smith and Barea since he doesn’t have the ball in his hands a much, but he does have a lot of upside to love at just over 5K.

T.J. McConnell-Philadelphia 76ers (3,700): If you have to go all the way cheap for one of your spots tonight, McConnell is a play that makes sense since he has at least 12 fantasy points in eight of his nine games this season and has gone off for over 17 fantasy points twice in his last six. He doesn’t have huge upside, but his multi-faceted contributions off the bench make him a pretty “safe” cheap play tonight against the Rockets.∗∗
