3) The Nostalgia of 1 versus 2

In 2006 heading into their matchup, both teams were ranked one and two respectively. It was the first time in Big Ten history that the conference would host a matchup where the two teams were the best in the nation. To no one’s surprise, both teams scored on their first possession, but it was the Buckeyes who pulled ahead for a 28-14 halftime lead.

There was a lot riding on this game. Who would play for the national championship? Who would win the Heisman Trophy? Most importantly, who would be number one after the meeting? Both teams showed up undefeated, but one was sure to leave with a loss.

The offenses did not disappoint as they combined for 900 total yards in a game of intense back-and-forth. Despite three turnovers, Ohio State went on to win the game 42-39.

The Buckeyes earned their Big Ten Championship in decisive fashion . They also secured a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.

Michigan went to the Rose Bowl to face USC, while Ohio State would move ahead to face the Florida Gators. Ironically enough, both teams lost their bowl games.

However, nothing could take away from the importance of this meeting. It was an offensive showdown of rare proportions, and an even more rare meeting of one versus two.
