2017 NFL Mock Draft: Dalvin Cook makes his case
By Brad Weiss
The San Francisco 49ers are a sorry excuse for a football team, as head coach Chip Kelly has labored through a 1-10 record in his first season at the helm. San Fran has already turned to both Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick to right the ship, but the results have not been good. They could easily take a quarterback here at No. 2, though I believe they are going to wait to get one via free agency, or next year’s draft.
Jonathan Allen is the kind of defensive talent that can turn around a defense, and the 49ers need someone who is going to put some pressure on up front. He has the size and speed to be a dominant force on the defensive line, and can move offensive lineman with ease thanks to his incredible hands. He seems to get better every week, and he just may be too good to pass up this early in the first round.
San Francisco needs a lot of help, and while Kaepernick is sure to be gone after this season, a guy like Kirk Cousins just may be available. Chip Kelly needs to start winning ball games as soon as possible, and a solid defense could definitely be competitive in the NFC West. He is going to want to make a splash in this draft with a sexy pick, but taking Allen here is the safest way to go.
