Two of the worst teams in the NFL will square off in Week 13 when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Chicago Bears. Here’s an updated account of the highlights, score updates, and postgame recap.

In Week 13, the Chicago Bears (2-9) will host the visiting San Francisco 49ers (1-10). Despite their terrible records, this game is quite meaningful. Should San Francisco lose this game, it gives them an excellent chance of notching the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. A loss would also keep their first overall pick hopes alive. Meanwhile, a Chicago loss would make the race for the second overall pick much more interesting.

Neither team enters Week 13 with a strong offense. Chicago has the second worst scoring offense, with just 178 points this season. Meanwhile, San Francisco has the 10th worst offense with 228 points. Their offensive struggles can be attributed to their poor offensive lines. While the Bears have a subpar rushing attack (97.5 YPG), the 49ers have one of the NFL’s most efficient running games (126.5 YPG).

Chicago will have the upper hand defensively. While their defense has been respectable this season, the same can’t be said for San Francisco. They rank last in the NFL in both points and total yards allowed. Because the Bears are at home and they have the better defense, expect them to have the slight upper hand in this game.

Highlights

Throughout the game, this post will be updated with highlights of key plays.

Three Stars

  1. Jordan Howard: Expect the Bears running back to have a monster game as he faces the league’s worst team at stopping the run. Howard has 1,008 total yards this season, with over 800 of them coming on the ground. With Matt Barkley taking the snaps at quarterback, expect Chicago to lean on their running back.
  2. Carlos Hyde: Carlos Hyde has been one of the very few bright spots for San Francisco this season. He has 714 combined yards for seven touchdowns in nine games this season. Hyde has been a huge reason for San Francisco’s rushing attack’s success. Going against the NFL’s 17th ranked rush defense, he should have a big day.
  3. Colin Kaepernick: The other half of the 49ers rushing attack, Kaepernick has been playing relatively well this season. He has an 87.0 passer rating with 10 touchdowns and just three interceptions. While Kaepernick is completing just over 50 percent of his passes, he’s been protecting the ball well.
