The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers won the Conference USA title this past weekend, as they scored 58 points against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Leading the way was their star senior running back, who racked up four touchdowns in the game. Anthony Wales capped the Hilltoppers regular season by rushing for 209 yards on 36 carries, as he was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player.

Wales has had one heck of a senior season, as he will finish the year with 1,376 yards on the ground. He has registered 1,000 yard seasons in back-to-back years, and finished this year off strong. In the team’s last seven games, Wales rushed for over 100 yards six times, while scoring a touchdown in the last ten games. The four touchdowns marked the second time he has accomplished that feat this season, and he now has 11 touchdowns in the last four games.

The game was bittersweet for the program, as it was the last regular season game for both Wales and head coach Jeff Brohm. While Wales will graduate, Brohm will take his coaching talents to Purdue, where he will get a shot to try his hand in the Big Ten Conference. Both men helped turn the Hilltoppers program around, and will both be missed dearly on campus. The two will get one more shot at a win, as they will take on 8-4 Memphis in the Boca Raton Bowl.
