Jeff Fisher was fired by the Los Angeles Rams on Monday afternoon, but who will come in and replace him?

After some optimism surrounding a 3-1 start this season, the Los Angeles Rams have lost seven of their last eight games with the lone win coming against the New York Jets.

Fisher tied Dan Reeves as the losingest coach in NFL with Sunday’s 42-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the 165th setback of his career. The novelty of the move to Los Angeles may already be wearing off, and the flimsy justification for keeping Fisher based on having been part of a franchise relocation before holds no water. That whooping at the hands of the Falcons was the final straw, as Fisher was fired on Monday morning.

It’s hard to call Fisher’s firing all that surprising. But most of the evidence within the Rams’ organization would point to it being the case after this season, and owner Stan Kroenke may be oblivious to the on-field product after he got what he wanted with the move west.

5. Norv Turner

Turner resigned as Minnesota Vikings’ offensive coordinator in the middle of this season, and at 64 years old his coaching career is surely winding down. But he has suggested he would keep coaching in 2017 if the right opportunity came, which could be as an offensive coordinator or a head coach.

Turner started his coaching career on the college level at USC from 1976-1984, and served as wide receivers coach for the first rendition of the Los Angeles Rams from 1985-1990. Turner’s offensive acumen is clear, with a long list of quarterbacks he has gotten the best out of, and the Rams have to get rookie quarterback Jared Goff’s development on track quickly. It’s uncertain if Turner is up to the task, but Fisher isn’t getting anything done in terms of quarterback development and Turner can’t be worse.

Turner makes his home in southern California, which may be a factor in any new opportunity he considers. The Rams should have some interest, with no fear of being told no thanks.
