The best hire of the 2016 coaching carousel is not even close. It’s the Texas Longhorns getting former Houston Cougars head coach Tom Herman. Herman is a MENSA member and arguably the best offensive mind to serve under Urban Meyer. If he’s as good as Dan Mullen is at Mississippi State, Texas won this hiring cycle.

Texas is the best job in the country. The Lone Star State has the best in-state talent of any state in the country. This is a blue-blood program that gets elite talent even in down recruiting cycles. Expect the Longhorns to pop under Herman no later than mid-way through the 2018 NCAA season.

Herman is the offensive genius that will get the best out of his quarterbacks, whether that is true freshman Shane Buechele or Houston graduate transfer Kyle Allen. Regardless of who he starts, Herman and Texas football will be the beneficiary.

There was only one can’t-miss head coaching candidate on the 2016 college football coaching carousel. That guy was Herman and Texas wins because the Longhorns were able to pry him away from Houston and other Power 5 gigs like LSU or Oregon.
