NFL Mock Draft: Week 16
By Brad Weiss
The San Diego Chargers tried to play spoiler on Sunday, as they gave the Oakland Raiders everything they could handle in the Raiders’ playoff-clinching game. Philip Rivers continues to show that he can produce at a high level, and despite Melvin Gordon being injured for the game, he definitely has established himself as the team’s future at running back. San Diego needs some help on the defensive side of the ball, more specifically in the secondary.
There are a plethora of good defensive back products in this draft, but Marlon Humphrey of Alabama may be the best cornerback. Humphrey is the son of a former NFL running back, and he definitely plays with his heart on his sleeve. He has been the best cornerback in the best conference in football during his time with the Crimson Tide, and would step right into the starting lineup in San Diego.
San Diego is much better than their record would indicate this season, and they should be back in the hunt for a division championship in 2017. They have suffered many injuries on both sides of the ball, so while they are drafting really high next April, it is not like they need to fill a ton of holes on the roster. Humphrey would definitely fill a weak spot on the roster, and the Chargers need to pounce if he is available.
