Dallas Cowboys punter Chris Jones laid a huge hit on Detroit Lions punt returner Andre Roberts on Monday Night Football.

The Dallas Cowboys have tried their best to inflict pain on the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Whether it was getting after Matthew Stafford or putting some big hits on the Lions’ receivers, the Cowboys did their best to set the tone with physicality. Punter Christ Jones also set a tone with his play on the field as well.

Late in the game, Jones was punting from the very back of his own end zone and Andre Roberts began to return it into Cowboys territory. As Roberts got deep into Cowboys territory, Jones stepped up and laid a huge hit on Roberts that got everyone on the sideline fired up.

Punters aren’t always known for being the ones to lay massive hits in the NFL, but there are some that relish getting their chance to help and make a tackle for their team. It probably isn’t a good thing if the last line of defense is making the tackle, but Dallas has to love this hit and effort.

The Cowboys have used Jones in a variety of ways this season and he has even had a few trick plays of his own. He isn’t just the prototypical punter that kicks it away and that’s it. He likes to make plays and try and turn the game for his team.

It’s why he’s one of the better punters in the league and why the Cowboys have a strong special teams unit. Hits like this only make his teammates respect him even more and it reminds the other team that they can’t just assume they will run over the punter.
