Desmond King

CB, Iowa

The New Orleans Saints continue to have one of the worst defenses in the NFL under head coach Sean Payton. Regardless of who is coaching in 2017, it’s pretty clear that the Saints are going to need some help in their secondary.

Fortunately for the Saints, there are plenty of cornerbacks to choose from to hopefully find a starting-caliber defensive back for next season. Iowa’s Desmond King could have gone pro last year, but decided to stay for his senior season. Now, he’s almost a lock to be a first-round pick, and the Saints could consider scooping him up.

King is probably the most impressive tackler of any cornerback in this draft class, and scouts will love to see that. While he’s not the biggest corner at 5-foot-11 and 203 pounds, King has elite speed and is a tremendous ball hawk who can create game-changing plays on defense or as a return man.

The Saints are desperately missing this kind of dynamic playmaker in their secondary, so King would be a great choice for New Orleans with their first-round selection. Hopefully adding a cornerback in the first round will go a long way towards the team slowing opposing offenses down next season.
