OG Anunoby

SF/PF, Indiana

The Detroit Pistons still appear to be trying to figure things out under head coach Stan Van Gundy. The core in Detroit is still relatively young, though, so there are reasons to be optimistic.

Indiana’s OG Anunoby is not only the best player remaining on my board here, but also a solid fit within Van Gundy’s system. The 6-foot-8 combo forward is prized for his defensive versatility, which he showed off in last season’s NCAA Tournament while locking up Kentucky’s Jamal Murray. His athleticism and length should allow him to guard four positions at the next level. Anunoby’s defensive numbers per 40 minutes (9.9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.7 steals) are excellent for a player projected to slot in at either forward spot.

Offensively, Anunoby isn’t much of a creator. Most of his value on that end will be dependent on his ability to knock down outside shots. Over two seasons, Anunoby has connected on 38.8 percent of 67 3-point attempts, but the likelihood of that number staying that high is questionable given his porous (49.4 percent) free throw shooting numbers. For the sophomore to be more than just a defensive stopper, he’ll need to show more consistency with his jumper.
