Terrance Ferguson

SG/SF, Adelaide

Even after making significant financial investments during the summer, the New York Knicks are set to miss out on the playoffs for the fourth straight season. Finding talent in the draft will be imperative for the Knicks in the 2017 draft given that they did not have a pick in the draft last year.

Terrance Ferguson is a former five-star recruit who skipped out on playing college basketball at Arizona to head overseas to Australia and join Adelaide. In 17 games there, he is averaging 17.7 minutes and shooting 38.1 percent from behind the arc on 2.5 attempts per contest. That’s fitting given that Ferguson is perhaps best known in the national consciousness for shooting out of his mind at the McDonald’s All-American Game last spring. Offensively, his outside shot will be his strength in the NBA and it’s a role that he’s accepted while playing with the 36ers in Australia.

Ideally, Ferguson projects as a quality 3-and-D wing. At 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, he certainly qualifies physically as a potentially high value defender. Right now, though, Ferguson is mostly just that on this end of the floor. In Australia, he hasn’t been regularly responsible for defensive events — either blocks or shots — so far this season. In that sense, he may be a bit of a project to bring along with some coaching, but if he can live up to his physical potential, then he’s got the ability to guard multiple spots on the floor for his team.
