Ivan Rabb

PF/C, California

The Chicago Bulls’ rebuilding plans continue with a second first round pick as a result of a prior trade with the Sacramento Kings. This selection is devoted to improving the Bulls’ frontcourt.

California big man Ivan Rabb surprised the draft community last year by opting to return to the Golden Bears rather than enter the NBA draft as a potential lottery pick. So far, the decision has paid off in terms of improving his game. Rabb is averaging 19.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per 40 minutes while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor as Cal’s primary offensive weapon. The 19-year old is well-rounded offensive weapon, capable of scoring from the low block, in the mid-range or off the dribble. He hasn’t developed a 3-point shot, but it’s possible that he could get there over the course of his career.

Defensively, Rabb’s biggest value is his rebounding. Because of his limited length, he likely won’t ever be able to work as a primary rim protector for a defense. Rabb has averaged just 1.6 blocks per 40 minutes during his two seasons at Berkeley.

Rabb definitely isn’t the sexiest pick in the draft, but he seems like he’ll be a reliable rotation player at the next level.
