Lousiville Cardinals

Last week: 9-4 Record

It’s not often that you slot the Heisman trophy winner’s team this low in a preview ranking. However, when you look at Louisville’s tailspin and add in what returns then it’s valid. Lamar Jackson had a season for the record books no doubt but near the end of the season, the Cardinals struggled with losses to Kentucky, Houston and LSU. Jackson looked rushed and not Heisman-like as defenses frustrated him into silly mistakes.

The task for Bobby Petrino and the Cardinals this season is to right the wrongs from a year ago and they’ll have the opportunity with a favorable schedule. The issue for Louisville is finding more options on offense that aren’t named Lamar Jackson. The return of Jaylen Smith and Traveon Samuel should help out the passing game while Jeremy Smith should get more touches in the running game. If Louisville can retain a majority of it’s Top 25 recruiting class then expect the Cardinals to display some more of their youth in 2017.
