College Basketball ACC Power Rankings: Week 10
The Cavaliers started out ACC play strong as they dispatched an elite Louisville squad by double digits to open up. A win over a top ten team, especially on the road, can do wonders for the resume of a team wanting to be a contender. They couldn’t keep the momentum going, however, as they dropped a close one to blazing-hot Florida State and then lost again by double-digits to Pittsburgh. Losing a tight game with FSU is forgivable, but the Hoos need to win games against middle-tier ACC teams like the Panthers. A convincing win over Wake Forest got their conference record back to .500, and the team looked every bit the contender they are. Point guard London Perrentes was unstoppable for them, dropping 24 points including 4-5 from on 3-pointers. Having a senior you can count on is a huge boon in college basketball, and the Cavs showed why. Virginia travels to South Carolina to take on Clemson this week in a game they need to win to get back to the top of the ACC.
2. Notre Dame (3-0)
One of two remaining undefeated teams in the ACC, the Fighting Irish have looked great in dispatching Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Clemson. The games against Pitt and Clemson, which they won by a combined six points, were probably too close for comfort, but a win is a win. Taking down Louisville, even in a close game, shows they belong among the ACC elite. Bonzie Colson has been a rock for Mike Brey, putting up double-doubles in all three contests. Despite only being listed at 6-foot-5, he has been an anchor down low. If he can continue that level of play, the Irish will be tough to beat when they surround him with shooters they way they can. Notre Dame hits the road this week, traveling to both Miami and Virginia Tech. The opportunity to pick up two more good road wins against good-not-great teams makes this a big week for the Irish.
