4. Colin Kaepernick

With a new general manager and head coach coming in San Francisco, and last offseason’s health concerns not in the picture to fully guarantee his salary, Kaepernick is virtually certain to become available when the 2017 league year starts.

Kaepernick started 11 games for the 49ers this season, completing just over 59 percent of his passes with 468 rushing yards, 18 total touchdowns (16 passing) and just four interceptions in 331 pass attempts. There are still clear shortcomings in his game, but he showed what he can do with good talent around him under Jim Harbaugh with the 49ers. In Jacksonville, there is the kind of skill position talent a quarterback that is simply functional more often than not can thrive with.

Kaepernick is in no position to demand a big long-term deal when he is ultimately available, and he’s unlikely to find a guaranteed starting job on the open market. That makes him a possible fit for the Jaguars, if only as viable, intriguing competition for Bortles heading into training camp.
