Ivan Rabb

PF/C, California

What to love: Love might be a strong word to use with California’s Ivan Rabb, the business-like power forward leading the way for the Golden Bears this season. Rabb figures to be a solid rotation big man in the NBA. He’s currently averaging 20.1 points and 14.2 rebounds per 40 minutes, pace adjusted. At 6-foot-10, he has a pretty well-refined post game and has been an excellent defensive rebounder. In an increased role without Jaylen Brown sucking up possessions, Rabb has become the focal point of Cal’s offensive attack and even shown improvement as a passer in the post.

What to hate: The biggest question for Rabb relates to how much better he can get. Certainly the 19-year old has taken on a bigger role for the Golden Bears this season, but his cumulative numbers in terms of PER (24.2 vs. 24.9) and BPM (8.7 vs. 8.1) are nearly identical when comparing his freshman campaign to his sophomore one. Rabb has made some noticeable improvements in terms of developing range on his jump shot, which should help when it comes to spacing the floor at the next level, but at this point, he seems to be topping out in terms of his ceiling. For teams looking to take a risk on finding a superstar, Rabb may not be the best lottery selection. For those interested in finding a solid rotation player, he fits the bill.
