  • Composite Rankings: No. 37 overall, No. 4 WDE

After another wide receiver prospect, we go back to the side of the ball that LSU has always recruited best and that they’re most known for. Making our way back to the defense, we find one of the more impressive prospects of the entire 2017 recruiting class, K’Lavon Chaisson out of North Shore High School in Houston, TX.

Right off the bat, the first thing that has to be addressed about Chaisson is the fact that he needs to put on a bit more weight. As a weakside defensive end, he could have all the speed and explosion in the world and still not be that effective of a player if he tries to go at it still weighing 211 pounds with a 6-4 frame. While you don’t want to sacrifice his burst or quickness, you also don’t want him getting bodied on the line.

With that said, Chaisson is an animal when it comes to what he brings with his speed and agility off the edge. Against, the pass, he’s in the quarterback’s mouthpiece while they’re still trying to get a firm grip off the football coming off of the snap. Chaisson also has a solid propensity for chipping in in run protection, a solid tackler whose size didn’t hurt him in high school.

LSU is certainly in the mix for Chaisson, though Texas and Tom Herman appear to be in the lead to land him. However, nabbing a recruit of his caliber from under the nose of the Longhorns would be a big get from Orgeron. But above all, having a player with the physical tools of Chaisson is a game-changer 9-out-of-10 times.
