2017 Senior Bowl: 5 Players who hurt stock
By John Buhler
The 2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl was set up for Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Nate Peterman to emerge as the best second-tier quarterback of his draft class. CBS had him as the No. 6 quarterback in his class with a fourth-round grade. He didn’t take control of the weekend like he should have.
While there were moments where he showed that he could throw the ball with conviction down the field, Peterman often times would miss wide open receivers and looked miserable in a collapsing pocket. In short, we kind of saw why Josh Dobbs beat him out at Tennessee to force Peterman to transfer to Pittsburgh.
He had a lack of touch that California Golden Bears quarterback clearly had. Peterman had at least two or three opportunities to win the game for the North with his arm. Fox was blatantly trying to force Peterman into winning time. He just lacked the precision to execute in crucial moments.
It was not a great week for the Pittsburgh quarterback. He didn’t assert himself and allowed Webb to leapfrog him on many teams’ draft boards. Webb may have had to transfer, too, but that was because Patrick Mahomes was a beast at Texas Tech. This week was a massive missed opportunity for Peterman.
