College Basketball Big Ten Power Rankings: Week 13
After an 0-4 start to the Big Ten regular season, Thad Matta has slightly turned things around for the Ohio State Buckeyes. It’s odd to see his team struggle, especially with the success he’s had over the years, but without a true superstar this season and a thin bench, the Buckeyes have been struggling to keep up with the conference’s top teams. Since that poor start, however, the Buckeyes are 3-2.
They were 3-1 after a win over Minnesota to start the week, but they ended up losing to Iowa on Saturday, 85-72. That loss dropped Ohio State from No. 11 in our power rankings to 12th and a win over Iowa could have propelled the Buckeyes into the top-10 range. Can Marc Loving, JaQuan Lyle and Jae’Sean Tate realistically get this team to the NCAA Tournament? It’s not looking likely.
Nebraska is a tough team to get a read on. The Cornhuskers have wins over teams like Maryland, Indiana and Iowa in conference play, starting 3-0 in the Big Ten, but were on a five-game skid before taking down Purdue on Sunday afternoon. The Cornhuskers have four solid conference wins, but are still sitting at 10-11 on the season overall.
Tim Miles has been a fantastic coach for Nebraska, but the Cornhuskers are having a tough time this season after having lost guys like Shavon Shields and Andrew White from last year’s team. The Cornhuskers have another opportunity to make a move in the conference standings this week, hosting Michigan State on Thursday and traveling to Iowa on Sunday.
