Top 10 college football recruiting classes after National Signing Day
Gus Malzahn and Auburn’s showing in the Sugar Bowl wasn’t really much of anything to write home about. Their offense was lackluster all season, even though their defensive effort was often outstanding. However, that still left the Tigers eyeing the top 10 in the college football recruiting rankings. With the class that they rounded out with a number of big-time prospects on National Signing Day, they accomplished just that:
The biggest addition of the day for Auburn was Calvin Ashley, a five-star offensive tackle out of the nation’s capital. The 6-6, 310-pound prospect is one of the best at the position and the No. 27 overall rated prospect that should come in and help protect transfer quarterback (from Baylor) Jarrett Stidham and keep him healthy. That wasn’t all that the Tigers managed to do on Wednesday in terms of signings, however.
Adding Tadarian Moultry and Markaviest Bryant, both in the top 200 recruits, was huge for the defense of the Tigers to keep them strong in the SEC. What’s more, though, the offense improved further with another big offensive tackle signing, Austin Troxell, and with running back Devan Barrett, the No. 11 ranked player at the position. It may not have been as flashy as many of the other SEC schools often are, but Auburn is going to stay in the mix and stay competitive in the conference and on a national level with a class such as this.
