Oklahoma Sooners

,

Oklahoma and Bob Stoops had already done a great job of both adding to and re-tooling a Sooners defense that needed it moving forward prior to National Signing Day. With that said, they still had more players on both sides of the ball that they needed to cement their place among the top 10 recruiting classes in college football for 2017. It was a busy day for the folks in Norman, OK, but they got the job done and landed firmly at No. 8 with this class of recruits:

Safety Robert Barnes and offensive guard Tyrese Robinson were the two biggest signings of the day for Oklahoma. The two four-star recruits ranked No. 13 and No. 8, respectively at their positions and both have the overwhelming physical tools to potentially see the field immediately for Stoops team. Oklahoma also added a talented cornerback ranked in the top 150 overall recruits, Tre Brown, who they signed in-state out of Tulsa.

However, the overlooked party of their day on Wednesday may have been adding more weapons to an offense that’s losing plenty. With Dede Westbrook, Joe Mixon, and Samaje Perine departing, Baker Mayfield needs something to work with. Subsequently, receivers CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo in addition to running back Kennedy Brooks should be able to compete for snaps right away. With those additions and a bevy of other quality signings, though, Oklahoma should be back in the New Year’s Six conversation and perhaps the College Football Playoff picture in 2017.
