Although Fire Emblem Heroes seems simple on its face, there are some systems it doesn’t teach you much about at the beginning. Here’s what SP is for.

Fire Emblem Heroes looks quite easy. After all, it’s just a scaled-down, mobile version of its source franchise, and the bite-sized maps make it easy to get sucked in. However, the game doesn’t teach you much about the SP your characters receive when they level up.

With each level up, each of your characters will get SP. Speaking from personal experience, your characters will always get some SP per each level up. Additionally, characters gain SP when they defeat an enemy.

However, the game does not explain where to use your SP. In the bottom menu, you have the opportunity to look at your Allies. In that submenu, select “Learn Skills”. Characters all have different skills they can learn. Pick your character, and then click next. You’ll see something like this. Here’s a five-star Linde with some of the skills she can learn:

As you can see, each version of the skill costs more SP to use. Other characters can learn combat skills like Night Sky if they don’t already have the skill but have the SP to spend. Furthermore, lower-starred characters can use SP to unlock more powerful weapons, which will help boost their attacking capabilities.

Generally, if you have higher-ranked characters, they are able to learn more skills overall, which means they need to defeat a lot of foes and level up as much as possible to earn that SP.

You can also get more SP by merging characters. If you have two of the same character, you can merge them from an Advanced Growth option found in Allies. At minimum, it’ll give the single character you then receive some SP, but it can also boost their stats.

Spend your SP wisely. Prioritize skills that suit your playing style. Want high stats? Pick the stat boosting skills first.
