Arizona Cardinals

NFC, West

If Cousins wants to/can leave the Redskins organization, the team that makes the most sense for him has to be the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona seems to be the one NFL franchise that is both ready to contend, but needs assurance at the quarterback position.

This potential landing spot is entirely contingent on if the Cardinals can get another year out of starter Carson Palmer. Palmer has been ravaged by injuries throughout his lengthy NFL career. He has the arm strength to still win in this league, but the rest of his body is starting to fail him.

If Palmer can’t go and general manager Steve Keim doesn’t like the quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft, expect the Cardinals to be in the Cousins free agency sweepstakes. Cousins is 28 years old, meaning that he could sign a four-year deal with Arizona, and complete it before he exits his football prime in his early 30s.

Playing in head coach Bruce Arians offense could take Cousins’ game to the next level. With the roster Keim has put together for Arians, Cousins could conceivably get Arizona to Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis next February.

Arizona has some cap space, with a projected $35,468,965 to work with in 2017 NFL free agency. The Cardinals are fortunate to be a premier landing spot for veteran NFL quarterbacks. They could have high interest in Cousins, but could also be looking at guys like Tony Romo and Jimmy Garoppolo this spring, too.
